In Ontario, only Licensed Electrical Contractors (LECs) are authorized and insured to perform electrical work for others.  Always verify their license with ESA before hiring — it’s the best way to ensure safety, legality, and peace of mind.

FAQ

  • A larger renovation typically consists of 3 stages:  Demolition, rough-in, and finishing.
  • For the demo, the drywall is normally removed along with everything else to be replaced.  Flooring, cabinets, walls etc.  This is normally done by the general contractor, but it is wise to have us come in to safely disconnect any old electrical.
  • Rough-in stage, new walls are framed, followed by HVAC and plumbing work.  The electrical work is next, but before insulation is added.  Before insulation, there is typically an ESA safety inspection.
  • Finishing takes place after drywall.  This is when we come back to install all final lights, switches, and receptacles.  We recommend paiting before electrical finishing, but that’s optional.  Finally we arrange a final ESA inspection, and send you a Certificate Of Acceptance from ESA.  Done!
  • For smaller renovation jobs where the drywall is not being completely removed, or which only involve electrical work, we might need to cut some holes in the drywall.
  • We have methods to avoid holes, but sometimes it is necessary.  This is to run wires through the framing, and not risk damage to other electrical, plumbing etc.
  • We will secure the drywall pieces back in place, but can not mud, sand or paint.  On request, we are happy to arrange a professional drywaller to come take care of it.
  • Absolutely yes – years experience in working with other trades has helped us find great skilled trade professionals to work with.  Just ask and we will help find the right contactors.
  • No worries – the estimate form is just asking for a number to give you an idea of the total price.  We can dial in the total number and layout later on site.
  • For estimating purposes, you could assume 1 pot light per 25 square feet, roughly.  There is more to than that, considering ceiling height, lumens per light, and the use of the room, but we will figure that out for you later.
  • Cost can vary for this type of work, so the best way to start is to fill out our estimate form below.  The estimate should give an idea of the final cost, especially if you include detailed information.
  • We will provide an estimate ASAP, usually within 24 hours.
  • Yes, but it’s a good idea to start with a free estimate using the form.  This will give you a good idea of price before booking the first site visit.
  • If you would prefer to meet on site first and/or get a quote, the site visit is free only if the quoted work is completed.  Otherwise, the site visit will need to be paid for to cover expenses.
  • NO – This is a common tactic for some contractors to secure jobs more easily, without considering the long-term risks and expenses for the home owner.  This is highly unsafe and illegal.
  • if their work causes damage to your property, any liability insurance they have will not cover damages caused by their illegal electrical work.  A house fire could be a financial disaster, or worse, lead to injury or even death.
  • On top of that, consider that a licensed master electrician typically goes through 8+ years before being elegible for a master license.  If your general contractor had the experience required – they would be licensed.
  • Yes – the only items you might prefer to supply is surface mount light fixtures and bathroom fans.
  • Given the huge and ever-changing variety of available styles, and personal preference, many customers prefer to shop for their own fixtures and fans.  By default we supply a standard variety for these.
  • Pot lights and undercabinet lighting, we should supply.  The market is flooded with cheap, low quality LEDs, and it can be hard to know what will last.  We supply Liteline pot lights and other recessed lighting, due to their proven reliability, many styles and reasonable prices.
  • If you choose to supply any lighting, read product reviews and use caution with cheaper products.  Use reputable brands, and make sure the product has safety approval markings.
